Founded in 1919, the Finnish Bar Association is a public-law organization that regulates, supervises, and develops the legal profession in Finland. The community’s responsibilities include promoting good legal practice, providing attorney training, and participating in the development of legislation. Its mission is to ensure the quality and reliability of legal services and safeguard clients’ legal protection. Information security and responsible data management are key priorities. In Finland, there are approximately 2,400 attorneys and 740 law firms (2025).
A familiar system, evolving needs
The Finnish Bar Association has used iManage for many years to support document creation and automated email archiving within the Microsoft 365 environment. As security requirements continue to tighten and digitalization opens new possibilities, the legal sector must continuously develop and modernize its tools.
In 2024, Advania’s LegalTech team delivered an information security training that is now available to Bar Association members through the Attorney Academy online learning platform. The goal is to make information security tangible, practical, and easy to apply in an attorney’s everyday work. Deploying the iManage system supports compliance with the Association’s own information security guidelines (B 5.1), which all attorneys are required to follow.
A fresh start with a modern cloud environment and iManage support
Advania was selected as the Bar Association’s iManage support partner thanks to its strong local expertise. The collaboration deepened quickly and seamlessly throughout 2025, as Advania took over the maintenance and support services for the iManage environment.
At the same time, a major cloud migration project was executed, upgrading the first-generation iManage cloud environment to the new iManage Cloud. The updated solution further improves system performance and security and opens new opportunities for knowledge-intensive organizations to leverage AI-driven capabilities. Best practices for iManage were also reviewed, and the document management environment was refined to be even more efficient and user-friendly.
