Alva’s intranet transformed with Fresh for seamless collaboration

Alva-yhtiöt Oy, which provides water and energy services in the Jyväskylä region, launched its new SharePoint-based Fresh Intranet solution in spring 2025. Implemented with the support of Advania, the modern and user-friendly Fresh has improved internal communication and collaboration. Maintaining and updating intranet content is now easier than ever, thanks to Fresh’s deep alignment with Microsoft’s roadmap and real-world customer needs. 

The need for an intranet renewal arose when Alva’s old intranet system, Valo, was reaching the end of its lifecycle. The goal was to enhance internal communication and cooperation, as well as to make system maintenance easier.

The renewal had several stages but progressed flexibly and efficiently. Collaboration with Advania went extremely well. Their Fresh Intranet solution met our needs and brought with it a modern, user-friendly platform,” says Eveliina Kaakinen, Alva’s systems specialist and project lead.

New tools into active use

In the project, the old Valo Intranet was replaced by the SharePoint-based Fresh Intranet solution. The deployment took place in spring 2025, with approximately 250 staff members trained to use the new system. During the project, users learned to take advantage of effective communication tools and provided feedback to optimise the system.

With the renewal, staff also gained access to an AI-based people search, making it easier to find the right expert or colleague within the organisation.

The new intranet supports our work as a responsible producer of water and energy services even better,” Kaakinen praises.

During the spring, Advania also helped Alva implement Microsoft 365 license group management through the Orchestry application. Orchestry streamlines the administration of Teams teams and the ordering of new teams, making these processes more efficient and smoother.

The project group and steering committee worked efficiently, and the communication plan was executed as intended. The project budget was undercut in terms of internal work hours, and total costs came in underestimate. This shows the project was well-planned and managed,” notes Kaakinen.
